FRP Divider Strips: What They Are and What to Specify

Short answer. FRP divider strips are narrow pultruded strips used to divide and trim interior spaces and wet areas. Choose them for moisture resistance, hygiene and low maintenance; ask for the exact profile, the colour and the way it is fixed.

Pultruded fibreglass flat strip and board.

A divider strip is a thin, straight pultruded section: it can separate wall finishes, form a trim or a movement joint, or act as a partition edge. Because the material does not absorb water or rust, it suits kitchens, washrooms, laboratories, cold stores and healthcare spaces. Pultruded flat strip and board are listed as standard shapes in the flat strip / board range.

Need What to specify
Size Width, thickness and length; tolerance
Surface Smooth for hygiene, textured for grip; colour (RAL or Pantone)
Resin Polyester for general use; special resin for chemicals or fire (resin guide)
Fixing Adhesive, screws with sealing, or clip-in profile
Cutting Carbide blade; seal cut edges in wet areas
Fire Class required by the building

Compared with other strips

  • Versus PVC: stiffer and more stable in heat, usually more costly.
  • Versus aluminium: no corrosion from cleaning chemicals and non-conductive, but less stiff for its weight.
  • Versus timber: no rot, swelling or finishing needed.

Installation and care

  1. Measure and cut with a carbide or fine-tooth blade; seal cut edges in wet or washdown areas.
  2. Dry-fit before bonding; keep the substrate clean and dry.
  3. Fix with the adhesive or fastener the supplier recommends; allow for small expansion at long runs.
  4. Seal joints with a compatible sealant where hygiene matters.
  5. Clean with mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads on a polished surface.

When not to use it: where a high fire rating is required without a flame-retardant grade, or where the strip must carry structural load beyond its tested capacity.
