DescribeSolutionsFAQContact us

Fiberglass channel is a structural shape made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) or glass fiber reinforced polymer (GRP), widely used in corrosive environments such as chemical plants, wastewater treatment facilities, marine applications, and more.

Compared with steel or aluminum channel, fiberglass channel offers advantages such as:

Corrosion resistance: it resists most acids, caustics, salts, and other chemicals that damage metal channel, and it does not rust or corrode over time, which lowers maintenance costs and extends service life.

Lightweight: fiberglass channel weighs about 75% less than steel channel and 30% less than aluminum channel1, making it easier to handle, transport, and install while reducing load on supporting structures and foundations.

High strength: high tensile and flexural strength let it withstand heavy loads and stresses without breaking or deforming, and it also resists impact, absorbing shocks and vibrations.

Dimensional stability: it does not expand or contract significantly with changes in temperature or humidity, and it keeps its shape and size under constant load and stress, ensuring a consistent fit and performance for the channel system.

Flame retardant: fire retardant resin systems meeting ASTM E84 Class A standards are available, giving a low flame spread and smoke development index that enhances safety and fire protection.

Electrically non-conductive: since it does not conduct electricity, the risk of electric shock or arc flash is eliminated, and it does not interfere with electromagnetic signals or radio frequency transmissions.

Fiberglass Channel Types and Specifications

Fiberglass channel comes in various types, sizes, colors, and resin systems to match different applications and requirements. Common types include:

U channel: a U-shaped channel with two parallel flanges connected by a web, used for framing, bracing, supporting, and connecting components.

Hat channel: a U-shaped channel with an added flange on the bottom of the web, used for mounting to flat surfaces such as walls or ceilings.

I beam: a channel with two parallel flanges connected by a narrow web, used for spanning long distances, supporting heavy loads, and resisting bending.

Rectangular tube: a channel with four closed sides, used for routing and insulating wires, cables, and tubing. 90° angle: a channel with two perpendicular flanges, used for reinforcing corners, joining sections, and creating frames.

Specifications for fiberglass channel depend on the type, size, resin system, and reinforcement selected. Common specifications include:

Parameters Data
Thickness: The thickness of the flange or the web of the channel. It ranges from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch.
Width: The width of the flange or the web of the channel. It ranges from 9/16 inch to 6 inches.
Length: The length of the channel section. It ranges from 10 feet to 20 feet.
Outside diameter: The outside diameter of the rectangular tube channel. It ranges from 1 inch to 4 inches.
Color: The color of the channel surface. It can be white, black, red, gray, green, orange, beige, yellow, blue, or custom.
Finish: The finish of the channel surface. It can be smooth or textured.
Manufacturing process: The manufacturing process of the channel. It can be pultrusion or extrusion.
Resin system: The resin system of the channel. It can be standard polyester , fire retardant polyester , or vinylester fire retardant.

Targeted Product FAQ

Q1: What environments are fiberglass channels designed for?

A1: They’re purpose-built for chemical plants, wastewater treatment facilities, marine structures, and any setting where steel or aluminum channel would corrode from acid, caustic, or saltwater exposure.

Q2: What sizes are available?

A2: Standard channel dimensions are available with custom sizing on request — see the Customized Service options above or send your drawing for a quote.

Q3: Can fiberglass channels be used for cable tray support or equipment framing?

A3: Yes, these are common applications, taking advantage of the material’s non-conductivity and corrosion resistance for cable management and equipment support structures.

Q4: How are fiberglass channels joined for larger assemblies?

A4: Structural adhesive bonding and mechanical fasteners are used, since FRP cannot be welded — we can advise on joining methods for your specific assembly.

Q5: Do you provide technical/load data for structural design?

A5: Yes, technical specifications are available on request to support your structural engineer’s design — contact us with your application details.
